To See or Not to See? That Is The Question: The Best Man Holiday

I am so happy that I had the privilege to attend the premiere of The Best Man Holiday in Atlantic Station. I was even happier that I got the chance to see Morris Chestnut up close and personal! All I can say is that God took His time with that creation. Yes. Lord!

But, can you believe that "The Best Man" came out in 1999? That was 14 years ago! I was nine years old! Nine!  Most of us were either in elementary school, middle school, or high school, and we all can remember this movie. Murph about to go into a coma from Candy's erotic dance. Harper about to get thrown from a building by Lance for helping Mia with more than the school newspaper, if you know what I mean. Ahh, the memories. That movie is something like a classic, and everyone knows how tough it is to make a sequel as good or better than the first. So, naturally I was a bit skeptical about The Best Man Holiday because I didn't understand how Malcolm D. Lee was going to create such greatness again. Oh, but let me tell you, he definitely pulled it off! I absolutely loved The Best Man Holiday. It's not some cheesy cliché, which can be quite common in some films. It was very well written and thought out.

I laughed, cried, lusted,  I mean laughed, some more. One of the things that makes The Best Man Holiday so great is the fact that it's so relatable.When you're in college or just life in general, you meet all of these people and form all of these friendships. However, once you graduate from college or just move on to do bigger things and live your lives, it's easy to lose touch with one another. Things change. Time passes, and you realize that you don't talk as much as you used to. As we get older, it's so easy to get consumed in our own lives and lose touch with friends. Before you know it, Patty Joe has had 5 kids! This film makes you appreciate those relationships. It helps you reflect on the good times and puts into perspective what's really important in life. The Best Man Holiday shows that no matter how much time passes between friends, some friendships do stand the tests of time and last forever. AND the situations are so REAL. It's not all egg nog and sugar cookies. They all deal with situations that anyone can relate to: black, white, male, female, or whatever. So, this weekend, do yourself a favor. Go see this movie with your friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, mom, boo, or whoever! It's funny. It's touching, and it resonates with so many people. If after this movie you don't want to call your friends up and take walks down memory lane, or listen to New Edition's, Can You Stand the Rain, something is wrong with you. (By the way, the New Edition scene is Morris Chestnut's favorite!) I could go on and on and give you a long synopsis, but I don't want to risk spoiling anything for anybody. Maybe all of the questions you've wondered about will be answered. Like...

Did Harper write another hit book? Will he and Lance ever be close again? What ever happened to Shelby after Murph dumped her? Did she and all of her money-hungry ways finally snag a millionaire? How are Lance and Mia? Is Jordan still all work and no play? Will she and Robin ever be cool? So many questions! Hmmmm... I hope you all enjoy The Best Man Holiday as much as I did. The Reality Corner: What's Really Going With RHOA's Porsha & KordellStewart?

The long awaited, new season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered last Sunday. Aside from the drama with Kenya Moore still going on about Walter and mad because no one reached out to her during her eviction, which is quite surprising for someone who's been in tons of multi-million dollar movies, though all I remember are the ones that went straight to DVD, but that's another story for another day. There's another housewife who is dealing with drama of her own: Porsha Stewart and her divorce. If you watched last season, you know all about Porsha and Kordell Stewart. Porsha Stewart was an actual housewife, at home cooking and doing other domestic duties. That's the type of wife Kordell wanted, and that's what Porsha agreed to. When Porsha became surrounded with successful, outspoken women like Kandi, NeNe, and Phaedra she too wanted an identity of her own instead of being Kordell's "trophy wife." Supposedly, Porsha's new found fame was too much for Kordell, and he wanted a divorce. Porsha says that she was taking a nap when she woke up to phone calls from her sister and found out via Twitter that her husband wanted a divorce. As Porsha told her side of the story, Kordell sat quietly through it all UNTIL Porsha questioned ol' Flash's sexuality, and everybody knows that when a man's sexuality is questioned, he has to say something.

Kordell recently stopped by Atlanta's V103's "Ryan Cameron Morning Show" to tell his side of story, and it was a COMPLETELY different version from Porsha's. Now, everyone knows that there are always three sides to every story, in this case, you have Porsha's side, Kordell's side, and the truth. Watching the episodes from last season, Kordell seemed to be a bit controlling, whereas Porsha seemed very submissive and willing to do whatever to keep her husband happy and make their marriage work. Porsha said she wasn't allowed to have other men in the house while Kordell wasn't there when Cynthia couldn't come over to Porsha's with some of her male assistants. There were other instances when Kordell seemed to crack the whip when it came to Porsha. So, it might make one question this interview.

Kordell says that Porsha changed completely once she was cast on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, staying out to the wee hours of the morning partying like she was in an Uncle Luke video! He says when asked what was up and why she was out so late, Porsha responded, "I'm grown. I do what I want." It's hard for me to believe that sweet, 265 days in a year thinking, Porsha said this to Kordell, but one never knows what goes on with couples behind closed doors. Whatever happened, I hate they didn't work out. First Ev and Ocho, now this! Another couple bites the dust!
